Apart from the possible seasonal fluctuations, small hydropower plants generate electricity very evenly and are therefore used for the base load. Small hydropower plants are among the most efficient power plants. With a high degree of efficiency of up to 90 percent, they’re much more efficient than fossil fuels or as wind and solar energy. The small hydropower plants can be operated without on-site personnel, which is reflected in the operating costs. The advantages are therefore:

• no fuel costs
• low operating costs
